I have always been absorbed with what actually helps people change. My passion to provide the best treatment is informed by ongoing learning and integration of the latest research based modalities.
I received my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in 1985 and my certificate in relational psychoanalysis from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy in 1999. I have trained in EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Coherent Breathing, Polyvagal therapy, in addition to an intensive study of trauma.
As a couples therapist, I have trained in all 3 levels of the Gottman Method as well as Advanced Core Skills for Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I consider myself an EFT therapist.
Before starting full time private practice in 1995, I was the director of an in-patient Dual Diagnosis Unit and worked in the field of addiction, both in-patient and outpatient.
Psychodynamic training has made me deeply sensitive to the ways early childhood experience shape our strengths and vulnerabilities as well as how important empathy and attunement are in therapy; it is the ground upon which a successful therapy experience is built.
Training in mind/body techniques allows me to provide the practical skills to manage difficult emotional states and relationships.
